2.2.1.4.2   get used to

Get used to is another expression that is followed by a noun or gerund, to talk about the process of something becoming normal for us.

The structure of get used to is similar to be used to. So get is the main verb; used is a past participle used as an adjective, and to is a preposition. Examples:

  •  I didn't understand the accent when I first moved here but I quickly got used to it.

  •  She has started working nights and is still getting used to sleeping during the day.

  •  After a little while, I've found that I get used to the smell of my detergent and can't smell it anymore.

  •  Have you gotten used to living in a smaller quarter here yet?
