An Email to Daughters_2019.6.23

Helen and Lily,

After so many months of thinking that I could use PowerPoint to do videos, it’s disappointing to finally realize that I couldn’t do it. Can’t do it!

I’ve recorded the script, and thought that I could play the recorded voice when playing the PowerPoint slides, and then record them together. After I’ve done that, there was a speaker watermark shown on the PowerPoint slides, and when I uploaded the whole thing, one needed to click on the speaker watermark before the voice would come out. No one would do silly things like that!

I’ve watched a video showing how to turn PowerPoint slides into videos with background music. It looks that the whole thing should apply to what I’ve been doing, but I couldn’t figure it out. I don’t know what I did wrong!

So I’ve bought a screen recording software called Camtasia after watching several videos and reading articles about which software is the best. It seems this one is the better one that most people recommend. With a screen recording software, you can record what’s shown on the screen of your computer or your phone, with your narration or some other music, and then you can edit the whole thing. I think this should work. I wish someone would tell me months earlier.

Whatever, I have to embark on a brand new process of learning how to use the damn thing. It looks pretty complicated, to me at least. It’s true that I’ve been learning things, like Lil said, but my clumsiness and slowness are driving me nuts. Perhaps these are signs of oldness. They must be. I don’t think I was this slow, or this clumsy, when I was your age.

Now that I proceed on things with the speed of a turtle, I figure I have to give myself some short-term objectives to look forward to. So I told myself that I have to do at least two things each day. When I slump on bed each day and count my hours, if I’ve done my quota, then at least I won’t be that miserable realizing only my inadequacies.

Helen, have you given it some thoughts on which ventures would suit you better? Let me know. Let’s talk...

Love you,

Dad
